MoSGA Conference 2014 More Reasons to Attend

Previously, I published that the Missouri State Genealogical Association (MoSGA) is holding their Annual Conference in Columbia Missouri August 1 - 2, 2014.

While the conference is offering excellent Keynote and Supporting Speakers as well as Workshops, you may be looking for a little more. Perhaps you want to have an extended visit to learn more about the area your ancestors lived or traveled through.

As promised, I am sharing additional items of interest to enrich your visit to this area.

The State Historical Society of Missouri is located in Columbia on the beautiful campus of the University of Missouri. Spend an afternoon learning about their Special Collections and enjoying the Thomas Hart Benton's American Mythologies exhibit.

Missouri State Genealogical Association 2014 Conference

August in Columbia Missouri may hold an added appeal to many genealogists. MoSGA is hosting their Annual Conference once again at Stoney Creek.

First and foremost, let me mention the 2014 Keynote Speaker is D. Joshua Taylor. Josh will give three informative and engaging presentations over the course of the two day conference.

MoSGA's conference committee has lined up an impressive supporting speaker line up and I am especially excited about the pre-conference workshops. The only problem is deciding which workshop to attend.

The very dynamic Beth Foulk will lead a workshop Friday morning on Problem Solving Using Timelines and FANS and Sharlene Miller's workshop will focus on the Missouri First Families program.

If you are looking for more reasons to attend, check back, I may have some area interests to talk about soon.

Podcasts To Expand Your Genealogy World

I've expressed my enjoyment of podcasts many times. Podcasts are so mobile that I'm not tied to a device or operating system. You can listen via a PC, a tablet and your phone. Anywhere you have WiFi (unless you download episodes then you don't even need WiFi) you can listen.

There are more podcast options out there than ever before. If you haven't taken a listen lately, you may want to give one of these a try.

  • The Genealogy Professional Podcast - Hosted by Marian Pierre-Louis
    • This is a topic specific podcast featuring interviews with professional genealogists.
  • Geneatopia - Hosted by Patty Roy
    • Geneatopia is a genealogy news podcast. Patty keeps listeners up-to-date with the latest news in the genealogy world.
  • Research At The National Archives and Beyond - Hosted by Bernice Bennett
    • This podcast has in-depth episodes with guests that are knowledgeable in various topics. The episodes are a great way to expand your research horizons.
  • Genealogy Gems - Hosted by Lisa Louise Cooke
    • Lisa has free and premium podcasts versions with topics that range from tech tips, to interviews to great stories told through listener submitted emails.
If you want to take a quick listen, here are a couple recommendations of exceptionally good episodes from various podcasts in my feed. Enjoy!
